As another traditional folk craft, Dough Modeling is very popular all over the country. It enjoys a very long history that date back to Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD). Over several thousand years of development, Dough Modeling has become a unique component of Chinese culture and folk art. The folk artists mix the flour, sticky rice powder and a variety of color together, and then model them into different figures, animals, etc. Since most modeling figures are well known to local people or drawn from popular legends, they are enjoyed a lot by children. In last classes our students did the Beijing Olympic mascots and little mouse for this Year which is Mouse Year in traditional Chinese Lunar calendar.

Zhang Bao Lin, Began to be engaged into the artistic creation of making dough figurine in 1970. His works subjects matter are extensive , various informative. And the modelling is accurate and also catches the spirit. His masterpiece work which is praised as " the dough model treasure ". In 1995, he was awarded title as " folk art artist in China " by UNESCO and China Society for the Study of Folk Literature and Art Association. The dough model works imitate " a thousand hands and a thousand eyes Buddha " of emerald , win the international emeritus gold medal.
